Worli Sea Face Mumbai Address: Worli, Mumbai, Maharashtra, 400030, India

The vast Arabian Sea that borders the western part of Mumbai can be seen from multiple places, but few are as beautiful as the Worli Sea Face. Covering a total distance of approximately 3.5 kilometres, this promenade in Worli allows visitors to stroll or just sit at one place and enjoy the views.

While skyscrapers and commercial halls line the street across the sea face, the promenade is quite a contrast in how it stops time and urges one to marvel at the expanse of the sea. Home to a few gardens and even a weekly farmer’s market, Worli Sea Face is more than just a paved sidewalk.

Worli Sea Face Timings and Entry Fee

Being a public walkway, Worli Sea Face remains open on all the days of the week at all times. Only on certain special occasions and events such as the Mumbai Marathon, the space is used exclusively for the marathoners and the volunteers. There is no entry fee, but you may have to pay if you decide to park your vehicle at a pay-and-park area. Parking is a little hard to find along this stretch.

Layout of Worli Sea Face

The sea face measures about 3.5 metres in length, and on its north end, begins the Worli Sea Face Garden. As you walk towards the south, you come across a couple of public parks, Bhagwan Gautam Buddha Udyan and BMC Garden. The Worli Weekly Farmers Market marks the very end of the sea face. The iconic Bandra Worli Sea Link, which starts towards the northern end of Worli Sea Face, connects the sea face to the Bandra suburb.

Things to do at the Worli Sea Face

Despite being just a promenade, the Worli Sea Face offers a sea of opportunities to those who wish to make the most of their time here. Presenting a few ideas to make your visit fun:

1. Join a cycling group or bring your own to pedal along the 3.5 odd kilometres of the sea face as you breathe in the salty air and feel the fresh breeze cooling your soul.

2. Reach the Worli Sea Face early in the morning for a nice round of light jog. End your fitness routine with a glass of fresh juice which the mobile stalls sell, keeping the health fanatics in mind.

3. Bring your date or friends with whom you can sit on the paved edge of the sea face and wait for the sun to set. Conversations had against the setting sun make the moments even more memorable.

4. If you are into photography or videography, bring your DSLR, lenses and tripod to shoot some amazing timelapse sequences of sunset, moving traffic, people running or just the Bandra Worli Sea Link being lit up. You can also play dress up and take pictures for your online albums. The cityscape makes for a great background for photos.

5. Take a stroll through the clean parks in the vicinity of the Worli Sea Face. BMC Garden, Worli Sea Face Garden and Bhagwan Gautam Buddha Udyan are the ones immediately around the sea face, each having plenty of green cover and walking trails.

Places to Visit near Worli Sea Face

The Worli Sea Face is a great place to spend a couple of hours, either walking about or gazing at the views. But you will soon want to explore other places nearby, especially if you have all day. Here are some interesting options around the sea face:

1. Bhagwan Gautam Buddha Udyan: Open on all days of the week, from 6 AM to 12 PM and again from 3 PM to 9 PM, Bhagwan Gautam Buddha Udyan is a public garden right opposite Worli Sea Face. Full of landscaped greens and flowering plants, the garden has walking tracks, benches and even an open gym with various workout equipment. There is a public toilet, convenient for those only visiting the sea face.

2. BMC Garden: Located close to the Worli Police Camp across Worli Sea Face, the BMC Garden is mainly a children’s play park. Maintained by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, this garden is a rather colourful one, with lots of plain slides, spiral slides, canopies, swings and other kids’ entertainment equipment. Apart from the trees and grassy patches, there are paved tracks for the adults who wish to walk while their children play. The BMC Garden is noted for its cleanliness.

3. Worli Fort: This 17th century fort is about 2 kilometres from the Worli Sea Face. Built by the British, Worli Fort stands on the Worli Hill. Getting here is not very easy as one has to walk through the Koli fishing village, through narrow lanes which fill the olfactory senses with the smell of fresh catch. The fort provides a good vantage point from where you can view the Bandra Worli Sea Link, the Mahim Bay and the Arabian Sea.

4. Bandra Worli Sea Link: The city’s most ambitious civil works project which drastically reduces the time to get from Worli to Bandra is the famous Bandra Worli Sea Link, otherwise known as the Rajiv Gandhi Sea Link. Spanning a total of 5.6 kilometres, the sea link affords precious views of Mumbai and the cityscape across the Arabian Sea, depending on which side you are driving from. On either side of this bridge, the neighbourhoods are largely upscale.

5. Prabhadevi Beach: A couple of kilometres from the sea face, the Prabhadevi Beach is a nice spot to get a panoramic view of the sea and the Bandra Worli Sea Link. The beach is not recommended for swimming or water sports, but the backdrop makes it ideal for photoshoots, whether it is for your wedding or maternity or just for social media. Since this is a public beach, it is open on all days and at all times.

6. Nehru Planetarium: About 2.5 km away from the sea face is a planetarium which makes science fun for both children and their parents and teachers. Nehru Planetarium is open from Monday to Saturday from 10:30 AM to 5 PM. They charge INR 25 for children between the ages of 4 and 12 years, and INR 50 for everyone above that threshold. You can look forward to 3-D documentaries, mostly about space and fictitious shows which are screened on their giant dome theatre.

7. Mahalakshmi Race Course: Almost 5 k south of Worli Sea Face is the exclusive Mahalakshmi Race Course. Located in the elite Mahalakshmi neighbourhood, this horse racing track is spread over 225 acres. The official racing season begins in mid-November and runs through April. However, the space is accessible at other times of the year to the common public for their morning and evening jogs. Horse riding enthusiasts can also take lessons from professional training schools here.

How to Reach Worli Sea Face

Worli Sea Face is placed in the posh suburb of Worli in the southern part of the city of Mumbai. The elaborate public transport system of Maharashtra’s capital makes it quite easy to arrive here via different modes of transport. Take a look at some of the ways you could get here:

Local Trains: The nearest local train station to Worli Sea Face is Prabhadevi Station on the Western Line. It takes only 11 minutes to reach the sea face via cab. If you prefer to walk instead, account for at least 30 to 45 minutes. On the Central Line, Parel is the closest station, and it takes 13 minutes to get to Worli Sea Face if you manage to hail a taxi. If you are travelling on the Harbour Line, change trains at Kurla to get on the Central Line and then get off at Parel Station.

Metro: Many parts of Mumbai Metro are still under construction. However, once they are all up and running, it will be possible to reach Worli Sea Face on a comfortable air-conditioned metro car. The nearest metro station will be the MMRCL Worli Metro Station, which, at 1.8 km, is about a 6-minute taxi-ride from the sea face.

City Buses: There are plenty of state-run buses which stop at the Worli Sea Face. In fact, this area has three bus stops in a row! Depending on your route, you can arrive at Worli Sea Face (S) Bus Stop, Worli Sea Face (N) Bus Stop or Worli Police Colony Bus Stop.

Private Transport: This part of Mumbai does not allow auto rickshaws to enter. So, your only option for private transport other than your own vehicle is the local taxi or radio cabs such as Uber, Ola and Meru. Interestingly, many cycling enthusiasts also prefer to cycle their way to Worli Sea Face, especially on weekend mornings when they head out in groups to workout and socialize.
